This customer had sagging floors and called us in to take a look. Sagging, bouncy floors are caused by a deterioration of foundation support. If there were cracks in the walls—in the basement or other parts of the home—then a different solution would be required. Since it was the floors, our Design Specialist went in and inspected the pre-existing support beams in the basement to determine their integrity and find a solution. At the end of the visit, our Design Specialist recommended SmartJacks.
The installation process for SmartJacks started with the typical measuring and planning. While the pre-existing support beams can serve as a basic guide for the new system, it’s always wise to do your own check to see if there’s a more efficient way. Once the length and height of the basement were taken down, weak points found, and a layout mapped, it was time to install!
SmartJacks are ordered and brought in at a certain size, but each is custom cut to fit each basement or crawl space because no two homes are the same and everything needs to be perfect if the optimal results are to be reached. Once they and the supplemental beams arrived, we installed the beams along the ceiling of the basement for extra support, then placed the SmartJacks in rows underneath, securely fastening them to the ground and the beam. And that’s pretty much all there is to it. The SmartJacks keep the floor from sagging further, providing the foundation with support.
